Embedded in Boehringer Ingelheim's growing global Computational Biology and Digital Sciences (gCBDS) department, you will have an impact on Research & Development, actively contributing to the discovery of breakthrough therapies that will increase human health. In our Therapeutic Area focused teams in gCBDS, we are looking for an experienced computational scientist to join our mission. As gCBDS Principal Scientist collaborating with the Central Nervous System Disease Research (CNSDR) therapeutic area, you will identify novel putative drug targets for the treatment of psychiatric symptoms and beyond by cutting edge in silico analyses. You strengthen new therapeutic concepts and identify targets for precision psychiatry and related brain indications using state-of-the-art computational methods to drive faster, improved decision making, ultimately developing impactful therapies for our patients. In your new role, you will work with and integrate data from multiple domains, especially omics and functional brain activity data. You will use existing and establish novel innovative methods to identify and characterize potential drug targets and to strengthen the human disease link of drug target candidate genes. Aiming to push boundaries in drug discovery, you will establish and develop new analysis strategies for brain omics and functional data, including network biology and machine learning. In interdisciplinary teams, you will contribute to and implement data-driven solutions during all research phases, from experimental design to downstream analyses. Thereby, you will use state-of-the-art infrastructure in HPC and cloud-based environments. By driving scientific projects, you will provide impact in the gCBDS department and the portfolio of the CNS therapeutic area. Presentation to key and senior stakeholders will be also part of your responsibilities. PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, neuroscience, molecular medicine, data science, machine learning or similar disciplines with a quantitative focus; alternatively, a master's degree in a similar field with long-term industry experience In-depth experience in bioinformatics, computational biology or data science Strong background in statistics and sound expertise in programming with R (Bioconductor) and/or Python Experience in reproducible research, including the use of repositories, pipelines, and FAIR data Proficient in agile principle, task prioritization and a track record of business value delivery within the agreed timeframe Highly motivated team player with excellent communication and presentation skills Fluency in English, written and spoken This is where you can grow, collaborate, innovate and improve lives.
